Cooler weather is quickly approaching and that means it’s time to pull out your cozy knits and bundle up for fall. The cold weather might also make you feel like hanging out in your gym clothes all day. Fortunately, thanks to the athleisure trend, your gym clothes are as stylish as ever or at least, they can be.
To help you nail the athleisure trend this fall, I spoke with Karma Athletics Creative Designer Carlie Wong to get her insights on what’s hot for fall 2016:
Black is the new black
This season, black is huge and you can find it in a number of different tones and textures. “We’re mixing blacks together,” Carlie explains. To stay on trend, look for athletic apparel like tights or even dresses that combine different materials like black mesh or black perforated detailing.
Tights ARE pants
Forget what you heard, tights are pants! Celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are rocking athletic tights all day long with a sports bra or a crop top. “The pants that we make are in a fabric that is a very high density,” Carlie explains. “They are thicker so you can get away with wearing them as pants.” Make sure your own tights are also thick (and not see-through), and combine them with your favourite tops – short or long - to be on trend all season long.
Mix it up
An easy way to pull off the athleisure trend this fall is to combine athletic pieces with your everyday favourites, Carlie says. Items like the Lynden pullover or the San Suu Jacket can easily be worn with your go-to jeans, while the open-back detailing on the Jackie tank also makes it the perfect piece for a night out.
Accessories help make an outfit and the same goes for athleisure wear! It doesn’t matter if you like to dress it up or dress it down, the right accessory can completely transform your athleisure look. Combine your sports tights with a pair of heels for an evening out, or wear them with your favourite sneakers to keep it casual. Play with other accessories like jewelry and staple items like a jean jacket or a leather jacket, and you’ll be ready to rock the athleisure trend.
