5 ways to style a jumpsuit

28/09/2016 Jennifer Braun

Jumpsuits are having a moment. They have been for a while: On the red carpet, on the high streets, during the summer and now, all the way into fall.

I’m a fan – a big fan! No really, just look at how I wore mine when I was being a tourist in Italy last summer, and again for a night out in Las Vegas this summer.

That’s exactly why I love jumpsuits so much. They’re very versatile and can easily work for a variety of occasions. But don’t just take it from me. Instead, take a style cue from our favourite celebrities and master the art of wearing a jumpsuit thanks to these style tips:

It’s all about fit

The key to successfully wearing a jumpsuit starts with finding the perfect fit. Jumpsuits come in a variety of cuts including fitted, as well as wide leg and straight leg cuts. Whatever you choose to wear, make sure it’s not too fitted (you’re not catwoman or Kim K), and not too loose so you don’t completely lose your figure. I love how Jessica Alba has the perfect balance of sex appeal and class in her jumpsuit.

Define your waist

It doesn’t matter if you’re petite or curvy, a good jumpsuit always properly defines your waist. This can easily be done by purchasing a belted jumpsuit or adding a belt of your own to a simple style. Demi Lovato got this look right by wearing a jumpsuit with button detailing found right at the waist.

Not just black

Be it a cocktail dress or a killer jacket, black is always a winning option, but what’s the fun in that? Have fun with your jumpsuit and go for colour a la Blake lively. If you’re a jumpsuit virgin, go for a solid colour like beige, navy or red. As you saw above, I’m also a fan of prints and I love this blue one!

Go for heels

A good pair of heels can completely transform your jumpsuit from day to night, and is also a great way to play with other colours and textures. I love how Kate Hudson paired her simple black jumpsuit with a pair of grey suede pumps to hit the TIFF red carpet.

Keep it casual

Off of the red carpet, jumpsuits come in a variety of materials that are more casual like this denim number that Zendaya is wearing. This terry cotton jumper is also comfortable and fashionable. Wear it with a pair of booties for fall and you’re ready for the day!
