March 8 marks International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Here on Picoum, I’m proud to say that we celebrate women’s accomplishments throughout the year. Over the last six months, we’ve done so through our Monday Motivation news series where we profile notable women working in various fields. We also support women by working with various independent designers to offer you clothing options by women, for women, in our e-shop.
On this International Women’s Day, we want to once again highlight some of the women who have and who continue to inspire us!
Here are eight remarkable women from various career paths you need to know:
Jennifer Brodeur - JB Skin Guru Founder
Isabelle called me right after meeting and interviewing JB Skin Guru Founder, Jennifer Brodeur, and she was completely in awe! Brodeur has worked relentlessly to bring her own Canadian skincare line to market and her hard work has paid off. Today, her products are loved by the likes of Ms. Oprah Winfrey (YES, ORRAH!) and more. Brodeur’s dedication and can-do attitude has been an inspiration. I highly suggest you follow her on Instagram for your own daily dose of inspiration and motivation.
Lexi Miles - Founder and CEO of WAXON Waxbar
I had the pleasure of interviewing Lexi Miles for our Monday Motivation news series and I was immediately inspired by her entrepreneurial spirit. Miles founded WAXON Waxbar in 2012 and today, at just 31-years-old, she operates seven corporate and franchise locations across Canada. What’s more, through her work, Miles has created over 60 jobs for other women in Canada!
Lisa Brookman - Wise Women Canada
Lisa Brookman reached out to me after discovering our Monday Motivation series and I could not be more pleased that she did! By day, Brookman works as a psychotherapist in Montreal and by night, she blogs at Wise Women Canada, all while being a wife and a mom of two. Brookman is passionate about mental health and breaking the stigma. Her dedication to helping individuals, couples and families deal with various issues such as anxiety and depression has been an inspiration. You can follow Wise Women Canada on Instagram to join her important conversation around mental health.
Geneviève Borne - Quebec fashion and music personality

Geneviève Borne has long been a fashion and music icon in Quebec. Following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, Borne today has a fresh perspective on work-life, balance that I think everyone should embrasse. Her perspective is inspiring and is a great reminder to enjoy the things in life that count.
Juliette Brun - Founder of Juliette & Chocolat
Juliette Brun is another woman Isabelle loves to gush about! As the woman behind gourmet chocolate brand and Quebec boutiques Juliette et Chocolat, Brun has created a chocolate empire over the last 13 years! With five kids and eight Juliette et Chocolat boutiques, Brun inspires us with her dedication and charming personality. The only thing we still can’t figure out is; how does she do it all?
Melissa Nepton - Womenswear Designer
Melissa Nepton is a Canadian womenswear designer who designs for the urban career woman. Today, her self-titled label is carried in over a 100 stores across North America. As a mom of two and as an independent designer, we admire her perseverance and dedication to Canada’s fashion scene. We’re proud to support her career and what she stands for by carrying her line in our e-shop.
Karine Joncas - Skincare creator
Earlier this year, I got the chance to meet Canadian skincare creator Karine Joncas at her new offices in Montreal’s historic garment district. Similarly to the self-titled skincare line she launched with her husband 15 years ago, Joncas is a busy woman who is constantly on the go. Still, she remains dedicated to creating a great culture for her employees and creating products for the busy lifestyle of women. I know, I was inspired!
Dominique Dunn - wellDunn Jewelry
Dominique Dunn is the creator behind wellDunn Jewelry. Her bohemian and vintage pieces have been a hit with global fashionistas since she launched her line in 2011. Dunn dropped her studies in Sexology to follow her passion as a jewelry designer and to launch her own line. Her success story has inspired us to stick to our dreams and serves as a reminder that anything is possible.
