As a personal stylist, it’s my job to know which styles and cuts work best on different body types. When I’m with my clients, I’m ready to share this knowledge with them, but I also want them to have an enjoyable shopping experience, and to take a break from their daily troubles. What I encounter almost every time instead however, is a lack of self-acceptance and self-esteem. I meet dozens and dozens of wonderful women each month, and they all have this feature in common.
Why are we so hard on ourselves? My clients are always interesting, unique and beautiful people that are pleasant to be around. So I keep wondering: Why is it so hard for women to accept themselves? I know we talk about this issue a lot. Especially when it comes to the media and how they project images of often skinny and beautiful models. But can we stop thinking that this is the only image of beauty?
I meet and chat with women who workout religiously and have strong bodies. I meet women who have scares from their pregnancies and who love their kids. I meet women who are skinny, yet think they are fat and those who have beautiful curves that they just can’t accept. The list goes on. It’s rare to find a woman who is confidant and who feels good in her skin, yet it is so beautiful to witness.
Personally, I can’t say that I think I am myself perfect, but I do think that I am a lot more than what I look like: I’m a passionate and proud woman, a mother, and a wife who does the best she can every day.
I guess what I’m trying to say fellow readers is that you are all beautiful! You all have something beautiful and different to offer – embrace it! We’re all unique and it’s important to show it off.
