Message Factory: Sustainable clothes with a message

Julie Rochefort has a talent for writing messages that inspire.

In 2005, she used that talent to create eco-friendly garments adorned of messages that encourages people to enjoy life. Message Factory was born.

“Since I’m little, I want to make the world a better place to live,” Rochefort explains. “I really believe that everyone comes to earth with a specific talent and all those talents put together can make the world a better place. One of my talents is to write messages and to inspire people.”

It was equally important for Rochefort to create a brand that was sustainable.

“My inspiration is life, so if I want this to continue for a while and if I want my children and their children to be able to enjoy life, everything that I do while I’m here has to be as eco and as sustainable as possible.”

Rochefort always wanted to work in clothing. Before launching Message Factory, she ran a clothing line with her brother called Magic Society, and today has over 20 years of experience in the garment industry.

I chatted with Rochefort, Message Factory Inc. president, to learn more about what inspires her designs and her brand philosophy:

What makes your brand special or unique?

My inspiring messages and the colours. Most of my customers buy Message Factory because of the message found on the garments. I think it really inspires them.

What type of woman do you have in mind when designing?

I think unconsciously I design for myself. I noticed that when I grew older, so did my customers. Now, I have clients from 20 to 99 years old. The woman I have in mind is active and young at heart. It’s also important that my designs fit women of all shapes and sizes. Our designs use to be very fitted, but now I make sure to have silhouettes that will please all types of different women.

What inspires your designs?

Children clothing inspires a lot of my designs. There’s this touch of innocence and flow, it’s not high fashion. It’s very natural.

What’s your most popular product at the moment?

The Sunflower tunic is very popular. You can wear it on both sides and it fits well on all kinds of different women. Our dresses are popular too, including the Cherry Blossom dress.

What can we expect for your upcoming fall-winter 2016 collection?

Every collection is like a book to me and there’s a story behind the inspiration. The fall-winter 2016 collection is called Legend. It was inspired by a legend called “Rainbow Legend”, which is Native American. The collection features a lot of jacquard prints and native symbols. It’s very colourful and joyful.
