With summer right around the corner, it’s time to trade in your chunky knits for summer wear and get ready for bikini season! This season, we’re sharing #PicoumFitTips where various health and fitness professionals will provide recommendations to help you feel your best this summer.

This week, Delphine Boillot, a passionate lawyer turned naturopath and mom of two baby girls, shares her top natural tips to help you activate your metabolism.

A fast metabolism can help you burn more calories and will leave you feeling less bloated this summer, allowing you to look and feel your best right on time for bikini season.

"I firmly believe that you can maximize your potential energy and stimulate your metabolism through a nutrient-rich diet. Your body is capable of absorbing and using what it is provided," Delphine explains.

Here are her top five tips to activate your metabolism for bikini season:

  1. Drink enough water

    This advice seems to come up often, right ? Delphine cannot stress enough the importance of hydration: "Start your mornings by activating your digestive system with a cup of warm water with lemon. During the day, sip on green tea because it contains many metabolism-boosting properties".

  2. Delphine’s kind of patio breakfast

    Say goodbye to processed foods...

    Cut down or completely eliminate any processed or refined foods from your diet, meaning anything prepackaged. Not only are many processed foods toxic due to the added preservatives, coloring and sugar they contain, but they are also very hard for you to digest, which slows down your metabolism.

  3. ...and hello to nutrient-dense whole foods

    The rule is if it's made in a plant, toss it, and if it's made from plants, eat it! Fill up on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, that are nutrient-dense and rich in fiber. Your metabolism will improve with each bite.

  4. Spice up your life !

    Add spices to your food or smoothies to rev up your metabolism, Delphine says. Her favourite options are ginger, cinnamon and cayenne powder, which are all well-known for their benefits on digestion and metabolism. Grate fresh ginger in your morning smoothie, sprinkle cinnamon in your tea, or make a spicy lemonade by adding a dash of cayenne in a cup of water with the juice of half a lemon, and with some stevia to taste.

  5. Sleep

    Research shows that sleep deprivation and sleep disorders may have profound metabolic implications, such as slowing down the metabolism and weight gain, YIKES! Make sure you get enough sleep and put yourself in the right condition before going to bed. Have your last meal three hours before bedtime, have some relaxing chamomile and put down your phone two to three hours before bed.
