It’s the first thing you put on in the morning. Before outerwear, comes underwear, and for us women, a bra. Why not have a little fun with it? Enter Sokoloff Lingerie.
Launched in 2012, the Montreal-based lingerie brand has been widely successful. Its founder Sofia Sokoloff launched the brand when she was finishing her degree in Industrial Management at UQAM and discovered a gap in the market.
“There were teenage brands like La Senza and other retailers that mass produce in China, and then there were luxurious brands from Paris that were very expensive,” explains Sofia. “There was nothing in between those two niche markets.”
Today, Sokoloff Lingerie has a full team of designers and creators in Montreal who produce six collections a year to offer customers trendy undergarments.
I chatted with Sofia to learn more about what inspires her designs and to get the details on her upcoming fall-winter 2016 collection:
What makes your brand special or unique?
We are one of the few brands that make lingerie here in Quebec, so I think that’s the big difference. All my competitors are big brands like La Senza. There are brands in the U.S market that make similar products, but in Quebec we’re the only one. Also, we’re trying to do fast fashion so we do six collections a year and we’re always trying to deliver something new that is on trend.
What type of woman do you design for?
We design for a woman who is very natural and feminine. Our products don’t have padding or foam and are all made with lace, and mesh. It’s made for the woman who is real and who wants to accept her natural curves.
What inspires your designs?
I get inspired when I travel and also on social media. The colours and the trends are also sometimes inspired by street style. I’m always being inspired!
Can you tell me a bit about your upcoming fall-winter 2016 collection?
Right now we’re producing our fall-winter collection and it will be launched mid-august. It’s all new designs and features basic colours like white and black, but also colours like mustard yellow, navy blue and forest green. We’ll also be introducing new lace detailing. The lookbook was shot in Bali and it has a very wild and artistic vibe.
What’s your most popular product?
Definitely the bralette. I think people are tired of push-up bras and all the foam bra models being pushed by Victoria Secret and La Senza. There’s a big trend right now for natural shape.
